ところが、大学進学をきっかけに石川を離れると、生活は一変した。「人に言えない、危ないことでお金を稼いでいる」。大学で同級生の男子学生は、ギャンブルに大金を使ったと自慢する男に「よくそんなにお金があるね」と尋ね、こう返されたと明かす。
男子学生の話では、男は大学にほとんど顔を出さず、「稼いでいるから留年しても大丈夫」などとも語っていた。マッチングアプリにも熱心で、男とみられる人物とやりとりをした女性は「急に『週末遊ばないか』と誘われ、断ると『じゃあこの日は』としつこかった」と証言した。
